Brain Bank Program
No Withdrawals, Only Deposits
The Alzheimer Resource Center coordinates the State of
Florida
Brain Bank Research Program for
a 17 county area. The purpose of this program
is to coordinate the donation of brain tissue for study and research
and assists
the medical community in finding the cause of Alzheimer's
disease so that it can become preventable and treatable.
Participation
in this program also provides the family with
definitive
diagnosis of the cause for their loved one's memory
impairment. A
staff person is on call 24 hours a day to make arrangements
at the time of death. The Brain Bank Program
is administered by Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami
Beach and under contract with the Florida Department
of Elder Affairs
